Maritime and natural heritage

When you think of a seaside resort, you think of the sea and the beach. You’ll love the Aquarium Le 7e Continent in Talmont-St-Hilaire and the Sealand Aquarium in Noirmoutier-en-l’Ile. It’s an underwater journey to discover the wonders of the ocean floor: hundreds of species of marine life and the luminescence of the abyss. What’s more, you’ll be introduced to the techniques used to harvest sea salt in Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez.

The town boasts France’s first certified port meeting European standards, with some 50 vessels. The port specializes in sardine and mackerel fishing. Don’t miss Le Port La Vie, a marina. Experience life in a different way with the “Passeport Escales” network, which offers over a hundred ports of call throughout Europe.

Come and contemplate the natural beauty of your city: the flora of the dunes, the flora of the forest, the nature and wildlife parks, etc.

Historical sites

Your city boasts enormous historical monuments that you absolutely must visit if you want to perfect your stay here. In fact, La Maison du Pêcheur (The Fisherman’s House) gives you an insight into the origins of fishing in this beautiful town. The Catholic religion has been deeply rooted in the habits of the inhabitants since the 9th century, which means that there is a significant religious heritage.

And don’t forget to get your cameras ready to capture the magnificent views of the seaside architecture. These include the Tour Joséphine (the oldest maritime construction), the Grosse Terre Lighthouse, the Villa Boisvinet, the Petite Tour, etc.

Finally, come and examine the Maison des Écrivains de la Mer, a museum recounting the history of shipwrecks. Your museum town has its own traditional marsh habitat: La Bourrine Bois Juquaud. It’s a house made of terracotta, whitewashed and thatched. In short, your metropolis is a unique destination for an exceptional vacation. The various sites are open all year round, with a rich and varied program.
