On the Atlantic Ocean side, Carcans, like Hourtin, also boasts a beautiful beach as far as the eye can see, where swimming, water-skiing, surfing and many other water sports activities are possible. And if you’re still a beginner, there are surf schools nearby to teach you the basic techniques.
The beach is also a very popular place for those who want to recharge their batteries by spending lazy hours on the fine sand, sunbathing in the sun, while the kids have fun building pretty little sandcastles on the beach.

Carcans, one of Gironde‘s must-see tourist towns, is just an 8-minute drive south of the L’Orée du Bois campsite if you fancy a stroll.
For nature lovers, it’s the perfect place to spend unforgettable moments. In fact, the town is bordered by France’s largest freshwater lake, which it shares with Hourtin, and is built right in the heart of the Landes de Gascogne forest.

- The town of Carcans, with its shops, market and café-theatre, is a great place to spend an evening during your vacation.
- the Pouch, a place to stroll between forest and marshland
- Maubuisson, a tourist resort
- the Domaine de Bombannes, with its UCPA center (partner of the campsite)
- Carcans-Plage, where water skiing, surfing, swimming and other water sports are available.

There are countless activities on the lake, from water sports to outdoor pursuits. Before taking the plunge, you can tour the surrounding area by bike, horseback or on foot, whichever you prefer.
If you’re more adventurous, don’t forget to take part in one of the many thrill-seeking activities, such as accrobranche and rock climbing, microlighting or paragliding.
Tennis, mini-golf and other activities are also available. Alternatively, the lake awaits you for windsurfing, canoeing, pedal-boating and catamaran sailing.
