L’Orée du Bois campsite is located just a few minutes from Hourtin lake and its beaches. Known as the largest freshwater lake in France, it offers magnificent scenery and pleasant beaches for safe swimming. Thanks to its calm, shallow waters, swimming is particularly safe.
Piqueyrot is a charming old fishing village. You can enjoy the peace and quiet of this place and its beach shaded by maritime pines. Swimming is supervised, so your children can enjoy themselves in complete peace.
The large supervised beach at Hourtin port is accessible by bike from the village. You can reach it easily from the l’Orée du Bois campsite. It’s ideally located, close to the shops if you fancy a sweet break or a spot of shopping!
Lachanau beach, less than 3 km from Hourtin, is the only unsupervised beach. It’s a beautiful, unspoilt beach away from the hustle and bustle of the towns. The water is shallow, so you can swim in peace and quiet.
Water sports on Lac d’Hourtin
There’s plenty to do around Lac d’Hourtin. You can enjoy a range of water-based activities such as canoeing, pedal-boating or paddle-boarding on the lake’s calm waters. Hire a catamaran from the Piqueyrot sailing club, or try your hand at kitesurfing at the Lachanau club!
From Hourtin-port, book a boat trip to see the lake from another point of view, or take the youngest members of your tribe to the children’s island. This free park is home to a superb wooden castle!

Hourtin’s central beach is the ideal spot for surfers, bodyboarders and kite-surfers. The powerful Atlantic waves attract surfers of all levels, who come to enjoy the exceptional conditions.
